The History of Physical Education
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the history of physical education programs. Formalized fitness programs in the schools started in the 18th century in Germany and expanded to other European nations and the United States. In the United States, a classical scholar trained in theology, Charles Beck (1798-1866) Charles Follen (1795-1840) are thought of as two of the first American physical education teachers and were responsible for the creation of the first outdoor gymnasium for children and the first college gymnasium (at Harvard). Since that time, physical education and fitness have come to be understood as essential components in a well-rounded education and life. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

A 4 page paper on the human respiratory system. The writer covers how the system works, the lungs' capacity for holding air, and that which specifically takes place during inhalation and exhalation. Applying these principles, the paper then attempts to solve whether the human respiratory system acts as a hindrance during intense exercise. It is concluded that the load on the respiratory muscles has only a minor role in the regulation of ventilation during heavy exercise. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

A 5 page emphasis on the importance of nutrition in decreasing one's propensity for contracting these potentially fatal conditions. The literature suggests that even such potentially fatal diseases as cancer can be impacted by choices to which we subject our bodies.
