Hazardous Waste Spills: Considerations for Rural Areas
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page overview of the many considerations involved in the efficient address of hazardous waste spills. The author reviews some of the problems encountered in a spill and emphasizes that while the EPA serves as the lead agency in such events, specific local procedures should be in place in order to deal with a hazardous waste spill. The key to dealing with hazardous waste spills is to have people working as a team rather than as disassociated entities.

Highway Construction and Environmental Impact
[ send me this paper ]
An 18 page discussion of the highway construction and its sometimes tremendous impact on the world's air and water and the environment in general. The general public is most often aware of the impacts on animal and plant species. Many other environmental impacts come at the hands of highway construction, however. These impacts can be both direct and indirect, point source and nonpoint source. Careful attention to project planning can result in the avoidance of environmental impact, the minimization of that impact or, mitigation when neither avoidance or minimization can be accomplished. Bibliography lists 10 sources.
