Neural Networks in Business
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper evaluating whether to pursue implementation of a neural network designed to increase the informational network's reliability. The purpose of the neural network is to "learn" patterns of abnormalities present before a network outage that are not discernible by humans. The recommendation here is for implementation of the superficial neugent model that only alerts humans of unacceptable conditions. The initial network needs to be scalable so that other features can be accessed at a later time, enabling the company to use other features that can result in greater employee productivity as well as greater network reliability. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

New Directions for Fiber Optics
[ send me this paper ]
A 9 page paper recommending a study into current research in fiber optics. The research into giving fiber optics new life long before its old one becomes obsolete leads to visions of less need for signal amplification, less maintenance, higher speed and less total transmission cost than is possible with current technology. Some researchers are even pursuing the creation of an optical chip that will lessen the problems of light-to-electronics conversion. The purpose here is to review current literature and to recommend a study that will assess the degree of compatibility between new applications and existing in-place networks. Includes an abstract. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
